MAC VAL, Musée d’art contemporain du Val-de-Marne
A brutal italic for contemporary art.
Collaboration with Hugo Anglade, Spassky Fischer, Paris.
Revival of the ‘Times Gothic’ found in a 1909-catalogue of the American Type Founders, the custom font of MAC VAL museum has been designed by Hugo Anglade. Its regular cut. Then, I had the pleasure to work on its italic. Brawny and nervy, this black industrial grotesque has an italic which is everything but a slanted roman. A disturbing strangeness, nothing rational, and so recognisable.
